In the Fourth series, Australian-born artist Tracey Moffatt documents athletes from television coverage of the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, Australia. Instead of focusing on the medal winners, Moffatt instead captures the disappointed expressions of fourth place finishers the moment they complete their event, look up at the scoreboard, and realize they almost won a medal. Moffatt sees the fourth place finisher as particularly interesting, if somewhat forgotten, because as runners-up they "are almost good," and unlike the last place competitors, they are, "not the worst, which has its own perverted glamour."
