In the video and book project Last Looks, Brooklyn-born artist Kambui Olujimi constructs an intense interaction between players and coach in a simulation of the closing minutes of a football game. Olujimi conjures up the anxiety of players inside the huddle and standing on the sideline receiving orders from the coach, as the pressure of crunch time escalates to a fever pitch. Even though the situation is fictionalized, the quality of Olujimi's portrayal seems authentic, a result of his own experience as a player and coach. A different kind realism is evident in his photo-documentary series 4th and Goal where he captures an array of moments both on and off the field of various football tableaus including the inaugural season of the Women's Professional Football League. Olujimi's interest in sports as an observer and as a participant is demonstrated by these two bodies of work.
