San Francisco-born Lee Walton is a conceptual artist whose projects and performances are full of humor, detailed planning, and interaction with the outside world. Creating self-altering experiences, Walton often incorporates himself into each project. For example, One Shot a Day is a web-based performance in which he plays an entire round of golf taking only one shot each day. This five month project shows the frustration and joys of the eighteen-hole journey. In Walton's current online project, Free Throw Competition: Lee Walton vs. Shaquille O'Neil, the artist playfully challenges the basketball superstar to a free throw competition. For every free throw attempt by O'Neal during the current NBA season, Walton makes the same number attempts in effort to beat his percentage. Utilizing the web as a medium for potentially communicating with Shaq and simultaneously allowing cyber-fans to witness the competition, Walton is creating his own pressure-packed experience and, the artist hopes, possibly adding a little pressure to Shaq's game too.
